Build your own knowledge base

Congratulations—you've chosen smasi.app to organize your knowledge in a simple and structured way. This guide will help you take the first steps toward creating your own knowledge database.
Together, we will build up a knowledge base for your electronic devices. Here, you can enter device data such as model, serial number, or date of purchase and document maintenance and repair instructions with photos.
To get started, download the smasi.app if you haven't already done so. We will then carry out the following steps:
Tip: Feel free to use the examples provided in the app to familiarize yourself with the features. This will allow you to try out the possibilities of smasi right away and discover its practical functions.
1) Create a new collection

Before you can capture content, you need to create a collection. A collection is like a folder for a specific topic—such as recipes or repair manuals. It is recommended that you create as few collections as possible. Only create a separate collection if the topics are completely different. For example, it would make sense to have one collection for recipes and a second collection for appliance repair manuals. Technical specifications and appliance repair manuals, on the other hand, could be stored in a single collection.
Launch the smasi.App, and you will be taken directly to the "Collections" page. If you are already in a sample collection, click on "Open another collection" in the top left corner to return to the home page. Then click on the plus sign in the top right corner to create a new collection. Select a suitable template or start with a blank collection if you want to design everything yourself.
2) Predefine categories

Categories help you find and organize your entries quickly. Think about which categories make sense for your future entries and create them. You can add or adjust categories later at any time.
Go to the "Categories" page and click on "Edit" in the top right corner to switch to edit mode. Here you can now create categories and, if necessary, group them together into category groups. For example, you could create a category group called "Device Types" and define categories such as "Tools", "Kitchen Appliances", "TV", "Computers", and "Smartphones" within it.
3) Prepare templates

Templates save you time and ensure a consistent structure for your entries. Create templates for frequently recurring content, such as "Technical Specifications" for devices.
Go to the "Templates" page and click on the plus sign in the top right corner to create your new template. Build the desired basic structure with the respective sections. Sections of the "Properties" type are particularly suitable for technical information.
Note: Make sure to create a blank template in addition to your first template. As long as you have only configured one template, you can only create new entries based on this template. A blank template gives you the flexibility to create free entries without a predefined structure.
4) Enter first entries

Now you can enter your first entries. To do this, go to the "Recently edited" page and click on the plus sign in the top right-hand corner again. A selection dialog box with your prepared templates will be displayed. Select the appropriate template.
After that, you can enter the details for this new entry and add images or attachments (e.g., PDFs with instructions) if necessary.
5) Set start page

If you want to structure your content like a book, you can create a fixed start page. The start page is basically a normal entry that you use as a central entry point. You can use this entry to create links to subpages.
This is how you create a table of contents for your own document structure. Use the "Links" section type to link subpages.
Tip: You can use the section properties to display a handy action button for directly entering entries.
The proof of the pudding is in the eating
The best way learn how to use smasi.app is to simply get started and make your first entries. You can easily organize your entries into categories later or expand your collection with templates. If something goes wrong while editing an entry, you can discard your changes at any time by clicking "Cancel".
